Grand Jury Fails to Indict Officer in Eric Garner Case

Wave of Protests After Grand Jury Doesn’t Indict Officer in Eric Garner Chokehold Case – Deliberating for less than 24 hours, a Staten Island grand jury chose not to indict 29 year old Police Officer Daniel Pantaleo for the ruled homicide of 43 year old Eric Garner. Officer Pantaleo engaged in aggressive policing, using physical tactics long banned by the NYPD. The decision to not send Pantaleo to trial ignited mass protest across New York, Washington, and other cities, while insistence from elected officials moved the Justice Department to open a civil rights inquiry at the federal level.
