BLH Files Lawsuit for Huwe Burton, Wrongfully Convicted for the Murder of His Mother

On October 28, 2020, BLH filed suit in federal court on behalf of Huwe Burton, exonerated in January 2019 after serving nearly 20 years in prison, wrongfully convicted for the murder of his mother when he was a teenager. The suit brings claims against the NYPD detectives who coerced his false confession and the Bronx County District Attorney’s Office for withholding exculpatory evidence. Huwe has always been innocent of the crime for which he was convicted and seeks justice for his decades-long incarceration.

“The State of New York put Huwe Burton through a living hell for 20 years. We hope that the City of New York will appreciate and understand the injustice that occurred in this case and seek to resolve this matter as soon as possible so that Huwe can moved forward with his life.”

Jonathan C. Moore, BLH Partner

“I [] stand here for that 16 year old boy who didn't have anybody to protect him and he looked to the adults to protect him at the time and the adults who were responsible for interpreting law didn't.”
