On June 6, 2016, BLH attorneys Jonathan C. Moore, Joshua S. Moskovitz and Keith Sczepanski filed a federal civil rights lawsuit alleging that the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision, under the supervision of Governor Andrew Cuomo and other high level officials, tortured inmates in the aftermath of the attempted escape of David Sweat and Richard Matt from Clinton Correctional Facility.
The lawsuit alleges that DOCCS Corrections Officers caused a number of inmates to endure "sadistic treatment," including "the most abhorrent racist and religious epithets." Such actions, BLH alleges, "embody the very antithesis of civil rights."
